Chief Constable cleared of gross misconduct

Chris Daw QC and Austin Welch, instructed by LHS solicitors, acted for Avon & Somerset’s Chief Constable, Nick Gargan, who was cleared of gross misconduct in a two week private hearing, which concluded on 9th July 2015.  His 14-month long suspension was immediately lifted and plans were announced for his return to office, given the limited findings of a Misconduct Panel.  Chief Constable Gargan was cleared altogether of allegations of “inappropriate advances” towards female officers and staff.  These were the first misconduct proceedings against a Chief Constable since the introduction of elected Police and Crime Commissioners.
