Neil Usher successfully prosecutes Fred Talbot on historic sex offence case

TV weatherman Mr Talbot, 65, of Bowdon, Altrincham, has been convicted of indecently assaulting two 14 year old school boys on school trips in the 1970’s following a four week trial. Mr Talbot is currently remanded in custody until his sentence hearing in March.

Opening the case, prosecutor Neil Usher said the ‘extrovert personality’ that made Fred Talbot a TV success helped him win the trust of boys which he ‘repeatedly abused’ by ‘sexually assaulting’ them.

“We say that like many adult child abusers who are in a position of authority, who are confident and obviously popular, he gambled that each of the boys he took advantage of would find it impossible to speak out and tell other adults what he had done”, Mr Usher added.
