Abigail Holt succeeded in securing over £34 000 damages in compensation for her client who had been subject to 10 assaults, including 3 attempted rapes. The client was a junior female police officer who suffered over a period of nearly 2 years at the hands of her ex-boyfriend/partner with whom she worked and who is himself a considerably more senior police officer. The Defendant denied the assaults. The Claimant had suffered a major depressive disorder and significant Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Whilst she is currently in remission from her medical conditions, she lives with seriously enhanced risks of the conditions returning.
The Judge accepted the submission of Ms Holt that the global sum for general damages should incorporate elements for the medical conditions and an enhancement which should reflect the number and nature of the assaults, as well as an element for the humiliation, injury to feelings, indignity and mental suffering caused by the assaults. |
