WHOLE LIFE ORDER FOR KILLER OF LANCASHIRE BUSINESSWOMAN

A man sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend has been told he will never be released, at a hearing at Preston Crown Court, on 30.06.14.

Paul O’Hara, aged 41, had pleaded guilty to murder and to serious assaults on two police officers. The pleas concerned events that occurred in Rawtenstall on 17.03.14. A court heard that O’Hara had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 1998 after he killed a girlfriend using a knife. Following his release on licence in 2012 he formed a relationship with Cherylee Shennan, for whom he worked at her place of business in Heywood. Fearing he would be returned to prison, O’Hara launched an attack on Miss Shennan and upon two detectives who were protecting her. The Recorder of Preston found that O’Hara’s case was exceptionally serious, and, he was ordered to serve the entirety of his life sentence without possibility of release.
