Rebecca Filletti was instructed by Owain Williams of Fieldings Porter Solicitors to represent a young man facing multiple allegations including kidnapping.
It was alleged and accepted that he had broken into his ex-partner’s home address whilst she was sleeping and taken her from her home at knifepoint.
Psychiatric experts were instructed to deal with disposal, the issues of risk and dangerousness and future treatment plans.
There are no sentencing guidelines for the offence of kidnapping and the final sentence was imposed following significantly protracted legal submissions over a number of hearings regarding analogous offence specific guidelines, authorities and thorough analysis of sentencing guidance relating to sentencing young persons and those with mental disorders.
The defendant was ultimately sentenced to a determinate sentence of 4 years and 6 months imprisonment.
