Kate Blackwell KC appointed as Lead Counsel to The Orgreave Inquiry

Head of Chambers Kate Blackwell KC has been appointed as Lead Counsel to the Orgreave Inquiry, an independent statutory inquiry established to aid public understanding of the events at Orgreave Coking Plant on 18 June 1984 and the subsequent prosecutions of those arrested on the day.

The Inquiry will seek to establish an overall picture of what took place including the planning undertaken by the police and government in anticipation of the demonstration.

As the anniversary of the day itself approaches, The Rt Revd Dr Pete Wilcox (Bishop of Sheffield and Chair of the Inquiry) has affirmed his and the panel’s ongoing commitment to establishing the significance and impact that the events continue to have on those affected.
