Lincoln House Chambers is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of Chambers. We aim to build a modern, inclusive and accessible set in which talented people from all backgrounds can thrive. We recognise that diversity strengthens advocacy, improves decision-making, and better reflects the communities we serve. The initiatives and commitments outlined below demonstrate how we seek to embed these principles in practice.

Anyone wishing to raise an ED&I related concern or seek support may contact Chambers ED&I Officer, Rachel Cooper, who has undertaken Bar Council training in Equality and Diversity, or Chambers Equalities and Regulatory Compliance Manager, Sigourney Lomax, who supports the monitoring and review of ED&I policies, strategies and training.

Chambers reviews its ED&I policies and strategies regularly to ensure continued progress and compliance with professional standards. We recognise that fostering an inclusive and equitable culture requires ongoing reflection, engagement and improvement.

Chambers is committed to maintaining a professional environment in which all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. Discrimination, harassment, victimisation and bullying are not tolerated in any form, and all concerns are addressed appropriately and in accordance with Chambers policies and regulatory obligations. All Chambers policies apply to all barristers and staff.

Training and support

All members and staff at LHC undertake compulsory annual training in ED&I, GDPR and other relevant professional areas, including updates on any policy changed implemented in line with sector guidance.

Chambers supports members and staff through practice development, career progression and wellbeing reviews, both annually and as required.

We host regular social events throughout the year to encourage collaboration, strengthen professional relationships and maintain the collegiate and supportive culture of Chambers.

In 2025, Chambers received a certificate of recognition for invaluable work demonstrating commitment to wellbeing in the barristers profession from the Bar Council.

Diversity data

Chambers diversity data is published every 3 years in accordance with Bar Standards Board requirements and is available here. We analyse and review this data carefully to identify trends, monitor progress and develop positive actions, aimed at improving equality, diversity and inclusion across Chambers.

Access to the profession

We are committed to improving access to the profession and reducing and/or removing barriers for those who face them, through outreach programmes including:

  • Mini pupillage programme – Our internal programme is designed to provide aspiring barristers with a chance to experience shadowing barristers in court and at Chambers.
  • Bar Council Bar Placement week – This sector-wide scheme is specifically designed to widen participation in the legal profession and improve social mobility. It targets young people from non-traditional and underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Chambers Race and Social Mobility working group – Established following the Bar Councils Race at the Bar reports, this internal group focuses on improving opportunities and experiences for individuals from ethnic minority and lower socio-economic backgrounds. Chambers has undertaken a race equality audit, implemented positive action measures and developed an anti-racism statement, available here.
  • Chambers Student Open Day – This is an annual event held at Chambers, aimed at disadvantaged young people under the age of 18.
  • Women in Law and Women in Criminal law – Past and present members of Chambers are actively involved in women’s not-for-profit networking organisations, providing resources and events designed to encourage, inspire and support the next generation of legal professionals.
  • Barristers giving career talks at schools and colleges – Many of our members regularly give talks at local education settings to give an insight into life as a barrister.

Charity and community

Many members of Chambers support access to justice initiatives and provide pro bono assistance to individuals who may otherwise struggle to access legal services. Members are also involved in a range of charitable, educational and community-based initiatives aligned with Chambers wider commitment to public service and social responsibility.
