Darren Finnegan Secures Acquittal in Dangerous Driving Causing Serious Injury Trial
Darren Finnegan, instructed by Zaneb Tariq of DWF , defended a young man who collided with a pedestrian in Blackpool in August 2023.
The defendant had overtaken a car and, shortly after returning to his own lane, collided with a pedestrian causing serious injuries.
The defendant admitted that he had caused those serious injuries by careless driving but the trial proceeded to hear evidence on whether the driving had been dangerous or not.
The crown’s case was that the defendant had been speeding to around 50 or 60mph before the collision, had overtaken dangerously and that his decision to swerve, instead of brake, had been dangerous also.
A four-day trial commenced and, as a result of Zaneb Tariq’s diligent preparation of this case, couple with Darren’s skillful cross-examination of prosecution witnesses and experts, the jury returned after less than 20 minutes of deliberation with a not guilty verdict.
Darren specialises in road traffic offences including cases where serious injury and death occur as a result of a defendant’s driving.
