Mark Ford KC and Laura Barbour Secure Murder Conviction & Life Sentence

On the 26th June 2025, a jury at the Manchester Crown Court found Jack Naylor guilty of murder following a trial lasting 3 weeks, on Friday 5th September he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years for the murder, and 2 months concurrent for a racially aggravated public order offence.

On the 15th December 2024, the defendant had joined his mother and her former partner, Thomas Gomm, to celebrate his 22nd birthday. However, the party took a sinister turn; after the defendant’s mother had left the house because of her son’s behaviour, the defendant embarked on a savage attack on Mr Gomm. Despite the efforts of paramedics and doctors, Mr Gomm died on the 17th December.

The prosecution team was led by Mark Ford KC, Laura Barbour was the junior.
