Bar Council Leaders and CBA Meet With MP’s & Peers Re Jury Trials

Leaders and representatives from the Bar Council, Criminal Bar Association and all 6 Circuits met with MPs and Peers on Tuesday to explain why the Bar does not support restricting jury trials.

The delegation included Lincoln House Chambers members Andrew Thomas KC in his role as Vice Chair of the Criminal Bar Association and Rebecca Filletti representing the Northern Circuit.

– There’s no evidence to back up the proposal
– It will make no impact on the Crown Court backlog
– It will cause a loss of public trust and participation in the criminal justice system

To put victims, complainants and defendants first, the government must focus on measures that will reduce the record high backlog now.
