Bill Baker KC & Lewis Bocking Secure Conviction in Diminished Responsibility Murder Case

Bill Baker KC and Lewis Bocking prosecuted R v Ahmad, a murder trial at Manchester Crown Court before Her Honour Judge Goddard KC which had been running for the past two weeks.

The defence advanced was diminished responsibility. The defendant gave evidence that he had suffered a psychotic episode during which he stabbed his wife 40 times, killing her.

Bill Baker KC cross-examined the defendant focusing on expert evidence obtained from a psychiatrist and psychologist. The cross-examination was so effective that the defendant abandoned his defence immediately following the cross examination and pleaded guilty to murder. He will be sentenced on Friday.
