Guy Gozem Q.C. and Simon Gurney secure conviction for murder

Following a 2 week trial at Manchester Crown Court the Defendant, Vincent O’Kane was found guilty of the murder of Philip Edge on 26th March 2018 at his flat in Eccles.
Guy Gozem Q.C. and Simon Gurney, instructed by CPS Manchester, successfully prosecuted Vincent O’Kane who, the Judge found, had had killed Mr Edge by a merciless beating after flying into a violent drug and drink fuelled rage.
Mr O’Kane had tried to cover up his crime, lying to paramedics and the Police, suggesting that Mr Edge had caused the fatal injuries himself. However, a post-mortem showed that Mr Edge’s internal injuries were not consistent with that claim and were caused by repeated severe blows, most likely kicks or stamps to his abdomen and chest.
O’Kane was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 15 years’ imprisonment.
