Jermaine Baker Inquiry report published

The report of the Jermaine Baker public inquiry has been published today. The Inquiry, led by Kate Blackwell QC as Counsel to the Inquiry, heard almost eight weeks of evidence about the shooting of Jermaine Baker during an armed operation by the Metropolitan Police Service in 2015.

The Inquiry Chairman, His Honour Clement Goldstone QC, concluded that that the MPS failed to plan and conduct the armed operation in such a way as to minimise, to the greatest extent possible, recourse to the use of lethal force. He did not conclude that Mr Baker died as a result of these failings.

The Chairman has made a significant number of criticisms of the way in which the MPS planned, authorised and conducted the armed operation and has also been critical of a number of features of armed policing more generally both within the MPS and nationally. He has made 26 recommendations.
