Kate Blackwell KC, Counsel to the Covid Inquiry, presents the final opening statement in “Module 10 – Impact on Society”

Yesterday, Kate Blackwell KC, Counsel to the Inquiry, presented the final opening statement on behalf of Baroness Hallett in the Covid Inquiry “Module 10 – Impact on Society”.

“Before Covid, nothing in this scale of loss from disease had been seen in more than a century…there are, we know, multiple losses from the same families or the same close-knit communities. Mother and fathers, children, grandparents, aunts and uncles, wives, husbands, treasured friends, lost. Shared grief must stand as one of the key impacts of Covid-19 and it is a consequence of the pandemic which cannot and will not be diminished in its examination by the Inquiry.”
