Katie Kenyon: Burnley Man Jailed for Killing

A Burnley man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the premeditated murder of a girlfriend.

On Thursday 17th November Andrew Burfield, 51 was sentenced to a minimum term of 32 years, for the killing of Katie Kenyon.

Her sudden disappearance in April 2022 had sparked a nationwide campaign out of concerns for her safety.

It was later discovered that she had been killed by Burfield.

At the Preston Crown Court a jury heard that Burfield had planned her killing for month before he carried it out.

He had even prepared a grave for her in a beauty spot in rural Lancashire.

In sentencing Burfield, Mr Justice Goose addressed the danger posed by Burfield in sending him to prison for life.

Tim Storrie KC, together with John Woodward of 15 Winckley Square, Preston, were instructed by Glen Smith of Steele Smith, Burnley, Lancashire for Burfield.
