Kim Obrusik and Holly Nelson Gang Related Firearms Case Concludes with Attorney Generals Reference Success

Kim Obrusik, leading Holly Nelson, were successful in securing convictions against all defendants in Operation Drever, a multi handed, gang related firearms trial which ran for three weeks at Manchester Crown Court in January.

The defendants, all linked to an organised crime group, intended to use a firearm against a rival criminal gang. The firearm had been used in another incident and the gang had been using an encrypted messaging system to conceal their activities.

Following the sentencing of the defendants, Counsel advised the Attorney General that the sentences imposed on three of the defendants were unduly lenient and the AG’s Ref process began. The case concluded on 27th June when all three sentences were successfully appealed and increased at a hearing at the Court of Appeal.
