Life Sentence for Man Who Killed As His Friends Looked On

Christopher Walton, aged 24, of Mobberley Road, Bolton has been sentenced to life imprisonment following the murder of a man outside a Breightmet chip shop.

Sitting at the Crown Court at Minshull Street, HHJ Cross QC said Walton should serve a minimum term of 22 years less time served.

Walton had pleaded guilty to the murder of Mr Christopher Hardman at an earlier hearing. The prosecution told the court that Walton had met Mr Hardman outside a parade of shops in the Breightmet area of Bolton. He had demanded money from Mr Hardman before repeatedly kicking and stamping on his head as a group of friends looked on. Mr Hardman subsequently died from his injuries. Tim Storrie QC and Louise Cowen prosecuted for CPS North West.
