Lisa Roberts QC and Leila Ghahhary involved in a Health and Safety Prosecution of a Very Large Organisation
Leila Ghahhary prosecuting on behalf of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council and Lisa Roberts QC defending Shop Direct Home Shopping Limited who pleaded guilty to an offence under s3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
The case involved health and safety failings which resulted in an injury to a worker, who was struck on the head by a metal roller when she walked underneath a conveyor, on which maintenance work was being carried out. The defendant company, regarded as a very large organisation for the purposes of the health and safety sentencing guidelines, received a fine of £130,000 and was ordered to pay the full prosecution costs.
