Louise Kitchin secured the conviction of Jeff Brown, the star of the Safestyle windows adverts known for his ‘you buy one, you get one free’ catchphrase. Mr Brown was convicted of six counts of being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of income tax totalling £58,000 between 2009 and 2014.
Jeff Brown, 51, of Burnley, earned nearly £350,000 over a six-year period working for double glazing company Safestyle UK and as a match day host at Burnley FC, but failed to file any tax returns.
Officers from the HMRC raided his home in February last year as part of a ‘blitz’ on Safestyle staff and found ‘bundles of cash’ worth £15,000 hidden inside a bedroom wardrobe.
Mr Brown received a 20 month prison sentence suspended for 2 years.
