Mark Friend & Zita Spencer Secure Acquittal in Juvenile Consent Rape Case
Mark Friend, instructed by Zita Spencer of Olliers Solicitors, has secured the acquittal of a client facing allegations of rape and other sexual offences dating back to 2022, when the client was 16 and in a relationship with the complainant.
The client had always maintained that any sexual activity between them was entirely consensual.
The case required careful and detailed preparation, including the consideration of sensitive legal arguments ahead of the complainant’s cross-examination at trial. Early engagement with the client also led to the identification of a significant volume of electronic material, which ultimately became central to the defence case.
Despite the case’s lengthy history and the volume of evidence considered at trial, the jury returned not guilty verdicts after less than an hour of deliberation.
Following the conclusion of the trial, the client’s family wrote to Mark and Zita to express their gratitude:
“Mark, watching you present the case with such class, meticulous attention to detail and complete command of every fact was truly remarkable. Your dedication and professionalism gave us confidence. Zita, your support, guidance, patience and kindness throughout this entire process meant more to us than words can adequately express.”
