About Lawrence Rainford

Overview

Lawrence successfully completed the Bar Practice Course (BPC) at Manchester Law School and was called to the Bar in November 2024. Lawrence has commenced a common law pupillage under the supervision of Henry Blackshaw and Samuel Jones.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Lawrence worked as a paralegal within a criminal defence law firm focusing mainly on motor offences.

Lawrence’s role included:

  • Drafting instructions and legal documents for use by counsel, including skeleton arguments and defence case statements
  • Drafting witness statements on behalf of Defendants
  • Instructing medical and forensic experts, reviewing reports and attending conferences
  • Analysing evidence including witness statements, expert reports, voice/video recordings, custody records and forensic collision reports
  • Attending hearings at both the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court
  • Assisting and supporting solicitors, attending conferences with counsel and managing a large case load
  • Lodging relevant court applications and documents such as appeal forms, applications to vacate trial, hearsay applications and S.142 applications.

Lawrence has worked on a broad range of criminal matters, from speeding offences to cases involving death by dangerous driving, preparing cases for both the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court. He also completed a Legal Clerkship in Miami, Florida, where he gained valuable civil litigation experience, particularly in the defence of automotive manufacturers and suppliers. Much of his work during the clerkship focused on asbestos-related claims.
