Mohammed Nawaz KC and Simon Gurney KC represent Mohammed Bashir in Manchester Terrorism Case
Mohammed Nawaz KC and Simon Gurney KC were instructed by Usama Patel of Good & Co Solicitors to represent Mohammed Asim Bashir, an associate of Jihad Al-Shamie, who was killed by Police whilst committing a terrorist attack on the Heaton Park synagogue in October 2025.
Mr Bashir pleaded guilty to one count of preparation of a terrorist act, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, which related to a hostile reconnaissance trip that he and Al-Shamie undertook to the MOD UK Defence Academy in August 2025, 2 months before Al-Shamie’s attack on the synagogue.
During a two-day sentencing hearing before Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb at Manchester Crown Court, Bashir received a life sentence with a minimum term of 17 years.
The proceedings attracted significant national media attention owing to the seriousness of the offences and the public interest in the case.
