The tragic case involved a milkman, who was just weeks away from retiring, being fatally injured in a collision in December 2021.
The defendant, a learner driver who was found to be using his phone at the point of impact, was one of the first to be sentenced for causing death by careless driving in England and Wales under the new more stringent sentencing regime.
After detailed and very sensitive mitigation from Neil Ronan the defendant was sentenced to 14 months custody.
